It would last forever. Homeowners would pay $600 to $1000 for installed windows because the product was so good. After all, it’s a lifetime warranty. It wasn’t until a couple of years into it that my eyes were opened. Customers were calling all the time about their windows sticking, water or air coming in, or asking why their white windows started turning yellow! Unfortunately, that vinyl window manufacturer went out of business and so much for a lifetime warranty. Vinyl may expand and warp at high temperatures and crack at low temperatures. Also, if the sunlight hits the material for many hours a day, colors other than white may fade over time. All vinyl becomes brittle in extreme cold and it softens in heat. The main drawback of plastic frames is that they lack of strength. They are most likely to break, especially during cold weather when it turns brittle. Vinyl simulated wood windows warped and leaked on the west side of the home causing thousands of dollars in repairs.

Before you even think about spending your hard-earned money on vinyl windows, make sure the salesperson shows you homes where their windows have been installed for at least ten years. Buying vinyl windows is like a trip through a house full of mirrors at a country fair. Very close to 160 degrees, vinyl begins to lose some of its rigidity. Stress can cause frames to sag or distort. Vinyl windows will eventually begin to turn yellow. Vinyl windows have a higher thermal expansion coefficient that can lead to water leaks and other maintenance problems. Vinyl windows often look chunkier than wood because the vinyl is not strong enough to be made into ultra thin parts. The other problem is that vinyl looks, well, like plastic.

Vinyl windows move more than twice the rate as aluminum, wood, or fiberglass. Vinyl expands seven times more than glass with each degree of temperature. This action can pop seals between the frames and the glass. Vinyl windows may exacerbate water intrusion in stucco walls. The expansion coefficient of vinyl is nearly 14 times that of aluminum and wood. Vinyl is simply not suitable on its own as a window material. Most vinyl replacement windows are made with a metal frame to give them strength.Vinyl fades, it cannot be painted, and it becomes brittle with age.

There are literally hundreds of references on the internet regarding the problems with vinyl. You just to sift through the thousands of sales pitches from vinyl manufactures and dealers to find them. The shrinking of vinyl can cause gaps around the edges of the windows allowing water to come in. Because of the nature of the material used, vinyl window frames also have disadvantages. For example, they are not inherently strong or rigid. Vinyl frames can soften, warp, twist, and bow if heat builds up within the frame. Moreover, the color of the window frames may fade over time.

The environmental impact of the production of poly-vinyl chloride is also a real concern. Pricing of windows from major manufacturers, tends to be more connected to quality, whereas with vinyl, price is all over the board. Some homeowners are under the impression that one brand of vinyl window is more or less prone to performance problems. Would you feel safe flying in a vinyl airplane or deep sea fishing in a vinyl boat?

Vinyl windows are made of plastic which distorts over time. It also changes color when sunlight is beaming on it. Vinyl windows expand, bow when in heat, and cracks. Manufacturers try to get over on homeowners to get them to buy their windows so they can put their businesses to the top, but little do they know, homeowners will always find out that vinyl windows are not the greatest choice of windows. Vinyl will expand and contract much much more than fiberglass or wood. If you can avoid it, I would suggest you not use vinyl.

A Homeowner’s vinyl siding is bowed, warped, and buckling-for the second time in two years-from sunlight reflected off the neighbor’s windows. And there are six other houses in the neighborhood with similar melting. So let’s take a closer look at this phenomenon. Warping vinyl siding has occurred before. In fact, the siding institute (VSI) issued a warning about such distortion over 8 years ago. The institute reported that a number of other variables can contribute to siding distortion:
* Outdoor temperature and wind speed
* How close other heat sources are, such as air conditioning compressors
* Color and solar absorption of the vinyl siding(darker colors absorb more heat)
* The heat distortion temperature of the vinyl siding (cheap siding has a low distortion temp)
* Architectural Designs that block wind and trap heat
* Angle of the sun and orientation of the glass relative to the vinyl siding
* It’s usually a combination of one or more contributing factors that occur before the siding melts. Even home-builders are reluctant to blame the neighbor’s windows, and point to a variety of factors that could affect the intensity of the reflected sunlight.

Fiberglass framed windows and doors combine strength and durability while having a low impact on our environment. Fiberglass is made from silica sand, a safe and abundant natural resource, and takes considerably less energy to make than many other window and door materials. The properties of Fiberglass make it an ideal choice when considering it’s resistance to heat and cold, longevity, and low rate of thermal contraction and expansion.

Windows and Doors Arizona believes in providing the best green products that are available to us today. We realize that it is more important now more than ever to do our part to protect the environment. At Windows and Doors Arizona, not only do we take pride in our work, we take pride in America. We do our best to reuse as much lumber as we can when we remove walls for new larger window openings. We ship all of the old aluminum window and door frames to our local recycling plant.

Green building (also known as green construction or sustainable building) refers to a structure that uses processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle: from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition. This practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort.
Although new technologies are constantly being developed to complement current practices in creating greener structures, the common objective is that green buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by:

* Efficiently using energy, water, and other resources
* Protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity
* Reducing waste, pollution and Environmental Degradation
* We can make a profound impact by setting high standards for our industry
* We’re taking care of the environment, one window or door at a time

If you are considering wood interior with vinyl or fiberglass outside, then I would suggest fiberglass, not vinyl. Fiberglass is 8 times stronger than vinyl. The most common problems with vinyl windows are seal failure.
Fiberglass replacement windows are among the most durable windows that exist today.
Vinyl replacement windows never require painting. They’re designed so that the color goes all the way through: the inevitable ding or scratch won’t show. Fiberglass windows can be painted, if you so desire. If you change your home’s look frequently, this may be an advantage. The look of your home is well worth considering. Chances are that you’ll find styles that please you on either side of the Fiberglass vs. Vinyl debate. But vinyl doesn’t work better than fiberglass. Fiberglass is more stronger and the storability is great. Vinyl bends and melts in sunlight for a long period of time. Fiberglass windows from silica sand, a safe and abundant natural resource. The insulated glass in our product contains 15%-33% recycled content. Fiberglass outperforms vinyl on every measure. That is why fiberglass is perfect for the construction of windows and doors and why Integrity from Windows and Doors Arizona uses it.
Cardinal LoE3-366 reduces window heat gain by 64% compared to ordinary glass. Basically it beats the heat. What more, LoE3-366 provides exceptional fading protection as well. It blocks 95% of the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays (a leading cause of fading), so it will help your furniture, carpets, curtain and wall coverings stay beautiful for years to come.

The dramatic comfort improvement from windows with warm glass surfaces also means the relative humidity of the indoor air can be controlled and maintained properly. Proper humidity levels (not too much, not to little) will improve comfort and promote a healthier living environment.
Total energy costs (heating+cooling) comparing a clear double-pane glass to LoE glass for a house with 15% window to wall ratio uniformly distributed on all four sides of the house. The smaller savings value assumes identical occupancy patterns. The larger value shows the potential savings when the improvement in occupant comfort is included. A home with LoE glass can deliver equivalent comfort with a lower heating set point in the winter and a higher cooling set point in the summer. LoE has been specially formulated to rejects the sun heat without affecting the view. It lets more light in and keeps more heat out. So homes stay cool and comfortable-with no room-darkening tints and virtually no exterior reflectance. LoE also provides the highest levels of year-round comfort and energy savings, making it the perfect glass no matter where you live.

A material – unlike wood – that’s impervious to cold, heat, insects, salt air and corrosion. A material that’s extremely waterproof and has the same thermal expansion and contraction properties as glass. That’s the beauty of fiberglass. Until recently, the complex frame components required for door designs have been impossible to attain with fiberglass. Our team changed all that by engineering a door system that is as attractive as it is durable, and efficient anywhere from the equator to the North Pole. A vinyl door frame is made from a compound recipe that dictates its performance and durability over time. Each additive to a company’s vinyl recipe helps determine the long-term durability characteristics of the final product, such as weather, impact and solar heat resistance. It’s at this stage where other companies often cut costs. On the other hand, We use only the best quality vinyl material to make our award-winning patio door frames.

Many homeowners want the look of wood, but they don’t want to pay the price or deal with the maintenance. Regardless of material, homeowners want a look that replicates fine wood. Darker stains and natural colors that create the look of real wood or bring out that natural beauty are dominating choices. Cherry is taking the power position away from oak today, which is still popular but declining. Walnut also is rising in popularity. Costumers are looking for a natural look with lighter stains. Mahogany and cherry are becoming more popular. Indeed, fiberglass doors, which in 1999 made up a small part of the market, are expected to be the dominant material used for entry doors by 2014.

Patio doors are getting larger, as costumers try to connect indoor and outdoor spaces. The technology found in dual-pane glass packages with low E 366, is allowing patio doors to lead the demand. Energy efficiency is as big of a concern for patio doors as it is for windows. The patio door often is seen as one more opening to be filled by the window replacement project. Upgrading existing homes is the dominant portion of the market, replacing new-home installations, marketers agree. The remodeling/replacement market is huge, and we except that to continue for 5 to 10 years. People are deciding to stay in their homes longer and upgrade what they got. It is easier for them to update than move. Remodeling value is less about cost alone and more about good value for higher-end products.

The products in the traditional-looking line will out sell other styles even though they cost more. Costumers want that style and decide that it’s worth paying more. Our fiberglass products in particular are growing very well, even though they are the most expensive in our line. We are seeing more homeowners requesting our french sliding patio doors. This is more of a trend and not necessarily economy-driven. The consumer is looking for the best product at a good value. Color choices for patio doors continue to evolve. With the demand for fiberglass windows and doors going up as it is more understood, we see more options.

Manufacturers see more competition now than ever before so consumers benefit when comparing prices. With so much to choose from, the removal and replacement window remodel project is seen as a major upgrade to be enjoyed.

Strong, stable, and amazingly resilient, Fiberglass windows is possibly the perfect building material, creating windows and doors that leave other materials in the dust. Fiberglass outperforms the competition on nearly every measure, resisting the ravages of heat, cold, time and pressure to provide the most worry-free windows and doors available today.
Fiberglass is as strong as steel and eight times stronger than vinyl. In fact pultruded fiberglass is such a solid, long-lasting material that it’s been trusted for years in bridge construction. One square inch of fiberglass is so tough, we have to use a diamond-edge blade just to cut it to size. Pultruded fiberglass is made up of thin strand of strong glass cables that are saturated with specially compounded resins to create a remarkably durable material.

When you first look at fiberglass windows, you might think you’re looking at an all-wood window. That’s no coincidence. Our fiberglass windows and replacement fiberglass windows are designed to match the beauty and profile of solid wood windows, while providing the strength, durability and performance of fiberglass windows. Windows and Doors Arizona own fiberglass production process enables us to make the complex profiles required for the look of painted wood windows on the exterior, with the option of choosing fiberglass or natural wood for the interior. Our process also allows us to engineer superior fiberglass windows that are impervious to water, cold, heat, insects, salt air and ultraviolet rays. Add to that our Full Lifetime Warranty with Glass Breakage and you have energy-efficient fiberglass windows that maintain their beauty.

A key ingredient can be the impact made by the entry or patio door, which provides the first impression that visitors receive. Many homeowners want the look of the wood, but they don’t want to pay the price or deal with maintenance. Regardless of material, homeowners want a look that replicates fine wood. Darker stains and natural colors that create the look of real wood or bring out that natural beauty are dominating choices. Cherry is taking the power position away from oak today, which is still popular but declining. Walnut also is rising in popularity. Costumers are looking for a natural look with lighter stains Mahogany and cherry are becoming more popular. Indeed, fiberglass doors, which in 1999 made up a miniscule part of the market, are accepted to be the dominant material used for entry doors by 2014. Patio doors are getting larger, as costumer try to connect indoor and outdoor spaces. The technology found in triple-pane glass packages is allowing patio doors to exceed. Energy efficiency is as big of a concern for patio doors as it is for windows. The patio door often is seen as one more opening to be filled by the window replacement. As a result, a focus on energy efficient glass is a key element for this specification.

Upgrading existing homes is the dominant portion of the market, replacing new-home installations, marketers agree. The remodeling/replacement market is huge, and we except that to continue for 5 to 10 years . People are deciding to stay in their homes longer and upgrade what they got. It is easier for them to update than move. Remodeling value is less about cost alone and more about good value for higher-end products. The products in traditional-looking line for outsell others styles even though they cost more. Costumers want that style and decide that it’s worth paying more. Our fiberglass products in particular are growing very well, even though they are the most expensive in our line. We are seeing homeowners requesting our french sliding patio doors. This is more of a trend and not necessarily economy-driven. The consumer is looking for the best product at a good value. The aids energy efficiency of the entire insulated-glass unit by further preventing heat loss. Color options for patio doors continue to evolve.
